Finished reading: Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse Book 1) by James S. A. Corey 📚
Enjoyed this space opera. Poignant, hopeful, and a little gruesome. Great characters. Wish the women could be more than sidekicks or love interests. Maybe we’ll get that further in the series.

Ah man, I find it so annoying when I read a book that seems otherwise good (or at least to have some good ideas) but the characterisation of the women is… like that. It’s like… your imagination couldn’t extend that far, huh. Since you say it’s otherwise enjoyable, I hope that aspect does improve 🤞

Have you tried The Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell? It’s straight-up military scifi, but the women aren’t always sidekicks.

have you read Ancillary Justice? The women are definitely not sidekicks or romantic interests. Sometimes they’re spaceships.

@JohnAN @josephaleo Haven’t read either of these but both sound intriguing. Adding to the list!

@jayeless Yep, same. It’s just a bummer and there are so many opportunities (especially in sci-fi!) to make women as central as men. That said, I like this book enough to keep reading the series.

@camacho Thanks for the insight, that’s good to know. I definitely liked the book enough to keep reading the series.
