Landlord asked me to take down my balcony flags because a new resident doesn’t love them.
Buddy, I’ll consider it when we have more than one working laundry machine for two buildings full of humans.
I told him I would compromise. The compromise is not adding more flags. (Yet.)

blows my mind that someone would see a fantastic balcony of flags like this one and not instantly want to befriend whomever might be living there

@pratik landlord was not specific about which flag was upsetting and was careful to stipulate that he himself “supports all that stuff.”

@lizpixels the amount of self control I’m exhibiting right now

@pratik I wish I’d been quick and clever enough to reply: “by that stuff do you mean the skeleton rocker or the patriotic eagle? Oh something else?”

Everything has a inclusive and positive message maybe except the skeleton, although I guess that is inclusive in a way too. 😊

You still have a chance to troll them. Take off the American flag and say, I know you said you support that stuff but I have the flag since it offended my neighbor. And as the Bible says, Love Thy Neighbor

@odd we are all but skeletons temporarily bearing the weight of temporal life, or something like that

@pratik oh that’s great. I was thinking maybe I’d take the two small flags off — the skeleton and American eagle — to show what I mean by a “compromise” lol

As an individual in a free country you have the full right to annoy people around you to whatever extent—though not always the actions to accomplish said annoyance are within the law. I heard a story about a neighbor insisting to remove a tree, and after this was done many years later protesting it was removed. People dislike change (and people suggesting change). I’d say it’s the motivational text that ruffled your landlord’s feathers.

I have the feeling it would be something we call in german as “Öl ins Feuer giessen” (Add oil to the fire). But speaking of oil and fire, perhaps hang something to remind everybody about freedom of speech :-) (as a compromise).

@z428 @toddgrotenhuis @renevanbelzen @V_ Trying to walk that fine line between exercising my rights and being considerate of others. For sure the pride flag stays where it is 🫡
