The problem with individuality anniemueller.com/posts/the…

I love those stick figures. They would make a great cultural awareness training tool. Are they yours?
The centering of the individual is a relatively recent and Western idea, isn’t it? Freedom and all that?
Embracing our interconnectedness and interdependence seems to be terrifying for so many, but also, of course, used by powerful people to further their own selfish interests.

Oh my, well, this is such a beautiful post. And yes, yes, yes. YES. The illustrations are such a sweet addition. Reading this was the best way to start a morning.
And now, thanks to your post, my day will take a different course because I know I have to write a response. You’ve touched on one of my dearest life learnings and there’s no way I can resist writing about it. We are all in this together.
Thanks for writing.
@davidmarsden Yes, very much agree with you.

Beautiful post. I think the illustrations elevated the message and it hit different because of their inclusion.

@davidmarsden Thanks, David. The drawings are mine, yes. Feel free to use anywhere you’d like.
And YES thanks for pointing out my Western-centric perspective here. I’m cackling a bit because I’ve illustrated my own point – how trapped I am in my own individual perspective that I apply the learnings of my culture to “all of humanity.” Ha. I added a note at the bottom of the post to acknowledge this.

@Denny thank you, Denny. I look forward to reading what you write today. >>We are all in this together. YES.

@groomsy thank you! I really like doing little ipad sketches, it helps me clarify what I’m trying to say.

@Denny Really loved reading this. Othering v entanglement: that’s the choice. There are no real lines, only the imaginary ones we create. The context of colonialism is really important to acknowledge. I always learn to think more deeply from your perspective, thank you.
