🔗 I really like @tracydurnell’s rules for where reading attention goes:
1: Choose what to read based on my interest, not “to be an informed person”
2: Be skeptical of titles that invoke fear; be wary of articles framed to make me feel superior to others
3: Prioritize information that will directly impact my life or community; pay less attention to news outside my control

Yes, yes and yes. Particularly 3. “pay less attention to news outside my control” resonates very strongly.

Three really good rules of thumb. Couldn't agree more. Like wasting time on overhyped books.

@alexwolfe @thisness @seadave This whole article from Tracy is excellent, lots of great points and insights plus practical ways to apply the rules above

Just bookmarked it now. Will go grab a brew and have a read. Thanks for sharing it with us. And I really need to bookmark Tracy's blog.

I think I am on board with these three. I am working towards removing myself from the internet entirely.

@Moondeer I've considered doing the same myself from time to time
